Should I get rid of my bath?
A question often posed in a world where many home owners have realised that they have not used their existing bath for its intended purpose for years!
Another reason is due to reduced mobility and the challenges of entering and exiting a bath, simply to use it for the over bath shower and, this is the main reason that we carry out much of this type of work.
We believe that preserving a bath in your property because you believe a future owner might prefer it is a valid concern – whether that’s for washing the dog or the grand children but, our anecdotal experience is that maintaining a bath is a lesser concern in a single bathroom property than ever before.
When baths are replaced by shower tray areas, they often provide more than enough space for washing the dog, we have also heard of clients that place a blow up pool in the shower area for bathing the grand children so, necessity is the mother of invention!
When a bath is installed, this is placed first and the wall tiles begin above the surface of the bath. The same happens with a shower tray but obviously, that tray is close to the floor. Should a property be sold with a tray and not a bath, the new owner can remove the tray and replace with a bath and cut the bath into the wall tiles, all with minimum disruption – taking a bath out and replacing with a tray at low level is a more involved process requiring additional wall preparation and tiling so, concerns of taking a bath out for your own needs should be mitigated by this ease of change for the incoming owner and, they might think nothing of not having a bath and view the ease of use and economy of showering over bathing as a benefit!
